Godzilla Vs. Kong Now Likely Headed To Streaming

It was supposed to be a blockbuster clash between two huge beasts, but it’s actually turning into a battle of the streaming services. How so? Godzilla Vs Kong is now at the centre of a tug-of-war between Netflix and HBO Max.

Here’s what’s happening: Legendary and Warner Bros. have, according to The Hollywood Reporter, been looking for a new home for the monster movie, which had been – and according to Warners – still is set for a May 2021 release. But the increasingly crowded schedule for next year, piled high with films that were supposed to be released this year.

Enter Netflix, which reportedly made an offer of $200 million for the movie, which had real appeal to Legendary, carrying 75 percent of the budget. That, in turn, has led Warners – with 25 percent, but more control of the release – to consider matching that offer.

Warner Bros. told the trade mag that, “We plan to release Godzilla vs. Kong theatrically next year as scheduled,” so we’ll have to see what happens in this case.
