Audible Launches AI Tools for Audiobook Creation
Amazon-owned online service Audible has launched AI-powered narration technology to help publishers produce more audiobooks. Translation services will also soon be available on Audible, Neowin writes.
Publishers can choose between two options for producing AI-powered audiobooks. The first option is to outsource the audiobook creation process from start to finish to Audible. The second option is for publishers to use AI technology and manage the process themselves. Neowin noted that publishers who produce books this way will benefit from updates to the audio technology, which will improve over time.
The AI system currently offers a choice of over 100 generated voices. They are available in English, Spanish, French, and Italian, and even in different accents and dialects.
Audible also plans to launch a beta version of its AI translation feature in late 2025. Initially, it will support translations from English to Spanish, French, Italian, and German. Publishers will be able to translate the text first, then narrate it (either with a human or AI voice), or convert the text directly to speech in the new language while preserving the voice and style of the original narrator. If desired, a professional linguist can be brought in to review the translations.
Amazon previously allowed Audible narrators to have their voices cloned using AI for use in producing audiobooks on the service.
